Policy Advocacy

During the 2019 Legislative Session, NM ACT advocated for:

  • Increased funding for New Mexico tobacco control programs
  • Increase the cigarette tax by $1.50, and raise tobacco products tax to an equivalent level as the increased cigarette tax
  • Ensure Medicaid to cover all FDA-approved cessation medications plus, individual, group, and phone counseling
  • Add e-cigarettes to the Dee Johnson Clean Indoor Air Act which will prohibit e-cigarette use in bars, restaurants and most workplaces off of tribal land
